LET’S GET NAKED

Too many vehicles on the roads these days

Nobody seems to want to walk anymore

Gradually we’re losing grounds of who we really are

Too many persons having their ears plugged in

Nobody seems to want to listen anymore

Gradually we’re losing sounds of who we really are

Too many persons with tech sealed lips

Nobody seems to want to speak anymore

Gradually we’re being dumbed about who we really are

Too many persons having these shades on

Nobody seems to see the other anymore

Gradually we’re losing sight of who we really are

Too many persons having these masks on

Nobody seems to embrace their trueness anymore

Gradually we’re losing truths of who we really are
Too many persons … these days
Nobody seems to … anymore

Gradually we’re losing the sense of who we truly are.

TRAPPED

Feeling so boxed in right now

Blame it on the structured system

Experiencing lots of confusion lately

Too many persons are crowding up this space

Engaging in all forms of resistance

To save myself from shrinking

Trying hard to break free

But the system won’t let me BE

IN THE DITCH

From the youths,to the poor and the oppressed,  Buchi speaks for all,  by drawing samples from her own experience as a black, jobless, separated mum living in North England with five kids having numerous needs to cater to.

Sadly,  many of the weighty issues discussed in this autobiography of hers,  written in the early seventies still pose themselves as grievous  problems of today.

What is found most fascinating is how she was able to source humour from many of the rocky situations in which she found herself,  making her sound rather comical and in the process sometimes bringing consolation upon herself by reminding her and the kids of the fact that their peers in her country( Nigeria/Biafra) had it worse; dying from snakebites in the bushes,  in a bid to escape the ongoing war. To her,  no where was safe,  only your creator could keep you well protected through life.

TOP QUOTES

  1. Love is like a living thing. It has to be fed,  nutured and even pampered to weather time.
  2. After a good warm home with lots of love,  any child would surely have enough confidence to be anything.
  3. The world has a habit of accepting the way you rated yourself.

Rating: 3/5 ( Buchi started with a strong voice, but sort of ended weak,  making me lose touch with the story)
